About Alan Hausenflock
My interest In photography started in 2001 when I picked up a magazine in an office and saw an image of the Owens Valley in California by Galen Rowell. I was really amazed by Galen’s work and I started exploring photography. Soon after that my wife bought me a small digital camera and I was unknowingly off on a new career.
My background in information technology helped me to learn digital photography and the software that supports it. I took night classes, joined photographer’s groups, made many field trips and read everything I could get my hands on about photography.
I love shooting in the mountains and forests with their rugged landscapes. My favorite time to shoot is at sunrise and sunset when the light turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. A foggy morning, right after a storm or an early evening snow will add other dimensions to a shot.
I especially love the sea. You’ll find me shooting in small coastal towns and fishing villages, harbors, docks and beaches. Anywhere the romance and hard work of the sea can be captured. Sailing regattas and tall ships have a special appeal for me.
I’ve broadened my work to include toned black and white, sepia, IR, artistic effects and digital art. The guidance of my publisher, Gango Editions has also been invaluable in helping me to better understand the art market.
With the help of all my friends I’m looking forward to continuing this unexpected adventure. My work can be found on line in many places and at galleries in Swansboro and Morehead City, NC.
